UPWELLING is an Interreg Atlantic Area project that aims to strengthen the blue economy by linking cutting-edge marine infrastructures, startups, and skilled professionals. Through a collaborative network and the UPWELLING Academy, the project drives innovation, training, and technology transfer in marine and coastal sectors.

The project begins with the creation of the UPWELLING Network and digital platform, connecting marine infrastructures, researchers, SMEs, and startups across the Atlantic Area.

In 2026, the focus shifts to capacity building through the UPWELLING Academy, which offers specialised training, hackathons, and collaborative activities to bridge the skills gap in the blue economy.

Finally, in 2027, selected innovations move into the Proof of Concept phase, where promising ideas are tested in real marine environments. By the end of the project, UPWELLING will have built a lasting transnational network and a digital hub that continue boosting innovation and blue growth beyond 2027.

UPWELLING takes inspiration from the oceanic phenomenon where deep, nutrient-rich waters rise to the surface – fueling life and renewal. Similarly, this project brings hidden potential in talent, technology, and infrastructures to the surface, empowering blue growth across the Atlantic Area.
